About me
Hi, I'm Kayla, a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with nearly 10 years of experience working with children and young adults with a wide range of communication and developmental needs. I earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Rhode Island, where I completed the accelerated program and received my Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
Throughout my career, I have worked in schools, private practice, early intervention, and adult services. I currently work at a school serving children and young adults ages 3–21 with multiple disabilities.
My passion has always been helping individuals build meaningful communication, social connections, and confidence. That passion inspired me to create Beyond Words Collective.
More than events — it's a community
Beyond Words Collective provides inclusive social events for children and young adults with special needs throughout Northern New Jersey, creating opportunities to interact, build friendships, and have fun outside of school.
Our approach
Our approach is rooted in inclusion, connection, and the belief that meaningful social experiences should be accessible to everyone. We recognize that there is no single "right" way to communicate — we celebrate spoken language, AAC devices, gestures, sign language, vocalizations, facial expressions, and eye contact.
Events are designed to be flexible and participant-centered. We meet individuals where they are — whether that means actively engaging in group games, observing before joining in, or participating in a preferred way.
We are not focused on "fixing" communication — we are focused on expanding opportunities for connection, friendship, and belonging.
